SDSU-IV Graduates

 

The 59th Commencement Ceremony at San Diego State University, Imperial Valley will be held

Thursday, May 16, 2019

7:00 PM

Processional begins at 6:45 PM

GRADUATION CARD & TICKETS

Students participating in commencement are required to complete a Graduation Card. This card will be used to announce the student's name and major.

Each student will also receive 5 tickets. Tickets will be required to attend the Commencement Ceremony. Your Red ID card will be required to obtain your tickets.

If participating in the ceremony, you must pick up tickets and fill out the Grad Card at the administration building on the following dates and times:

Tuesday & Wednesday - April 9th & 10th, 2019

3:00 PM - 6:00 PM

Please note: tickets will not be distributed after April 10th

DEGREE REQUIREMENTS

All degree requirements must be completed by the date of graduation. Incomplete grades, petitions, grade changes and transcripts from other institutions must be on file no later than the last day of the semester of graduation. Official transcripts for work completed at other institutions must be received at SDSU no later than six weeks after the date of graduation. Diplomas will be mailed to students approximately eight to ten weeks after the end of the semester.

CAP AND GOWN

Caps and gowns will be available at Aztec Shops beginning Tuesday, April 9th, 2019. During Grad Fest, April 9 to April 12, there will be a l0% discount. Bachelor regalia includes cap, gown, tassel and Stole of Gratitude: $94.50. After April 12th, the price is $105.00.

REHEARSAL

Graduating candidates are strongly encouraged to attend rehearsal. Rehearsal will be held on Wednesday, May 15, 2019, 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. at the Rollie Carrillo Quad. A walk-through of the ceremony will be conducted and you will receive important updated information regarding the ceremony. Caps and gowns are not required for practice. The Associated Student Council will hold a luncheon for graduates immediately following the rehearsal.

COMMENCEMENT DAY

Students will line up in the library starting at 5:45pm. You must have your grad card to enter the library. Grad cards will be distributed at the north gate (Sherman Avenue).  Please have a photo ID with you. Commencement staff will line up students. Only graduates will be allowed in the library. Cap and gown is required. Processional starts PROMPTLY at 6:45pm.

The commencement ceremony will stream live on http://www.ivcampus.sdsu.edu/. Streaming starts at 6:45pm.

Balloon bouquets are not allowed during the ceremony as it blocks the view for guests.

Aztec Shops will be open from 5:00pm to 9:00pm on Commencement Day.

PARKING

Parking will be available in the following locations:

  • Campus Parking Lot
  • Calexico High School 9th Grade Campus Parking Lot
  • Surrounding streets: Sherman Street, Heber Avenue, Blair Avenue

SPECIAL ACCOMMODATIONS

Guests with physical disabilities will be provided with special seating arrangements. Due to limited space, special accommodations will be considered on a first come first serve basis.  For information, email Samuel Palma at [email protected].

PROHIBITED ITEMS

The following items will not be allowed on commencement day:

  • Balloons
  • Noisemakers
  • Weapons

Bags will be inspected upon entry to the campus.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Gates open at 5:00 PM for guests. The procession will begin promptly at 6:45 PM.  Campus gates will close temporarily at 6:40 PM.

GRAD PARTY AT THE AZTEC BOOKSTORE AND CLASS PHOTO

April 10, 2019 at 3:00 PM

Join the Aztec Shops in celebrating your graduation!  Aztec Shops will provide refreshments, items to decorate your caps, and other fun activities. Caps and gowns will be available at a discount this day.

The class photo will also be taken at 3:00 PM in front of the library. Please wear your SDSU gear.

Lavendar Graduation

San Diego State-Imperial Valley's ’s 2nd Annual Lavender Graduation
celebrates graduating students who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual,
transgender, queer, and their allies. Students will receive a lavender
honor cord to wear with their academic regalia during commencement
and a Certificate of Distinction.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is the difference between Graduation and Commencement?

Graduation means completely fulfilling your degree requirements, resulting in a diploma. Commencement is the symbolic ceremony marking the closing of your academic career. This is an opportunity for you, your family, and friends to celebrate this important milestone.

How do I apply to walk in the commencement ceremony?

If you applied for graduation in Fall 2018, Spring 2019, or Summer 2019 your name will be on the commencement list.

Is there a fee for the ceremony?

There is no fee to walk in the ceremony.

How long will the ceremony last?

The ceremony should last about 2 hours.

How many tickets do I get?

Each graduate will receive five tickets for the ceremony.

Do children need a ticket to enter the ceremony?

Any child over the age of 1 will require a ticket.

Can I buy tickets?

You cannot buy more tickets for the commencement ceremony.

SDSU - Imperial Valley prohibits the sale of commencement tickets.

Will there be special accommodations for guests with special needs?

Where do I purchase my cap and gown?

Caps and gowns will be available at the Aztec Shop starting April 9.

Can I decorate my cap?

Yes, graduates are allowed to decorate their caps.

Will I receive my diploma at the commencement ceremony?

No. Diplomas will be mailed to the diploma mailing address indicated on your web portal at the time the order is placed.

When will I receive my diploma?

At the end of the term for which you have applied to graduate, Advising and Evaluations will review your records. Once we have confirmed completion of requirements, your degree will be posted to your academic record. Approximately one to two weeks after the end of the term, you will receive notification of the status of your degree.

Diplomas are mailed about four to six weeks after the last day of the semester that you graduate. Diplomas are mailed to the diploma address you listed on your application for graduation. If you are an August graduate, you will receive your diploma four to six weeks after the last summer session.

Will my minor print on my diploma?

No. SDSU only prints majors on the diplomas. Students who earned a minor may find the minor information on their official and unofficial SDSU transcripts.

Will I receive two diplomas since I completed two majors?

No. Both majors will be listed on one diploma. The diploma and transcript issued will note the one degree earned with all majors completed.

Do honors and distinction print on my diploma?

Yes. Any honors and distinction you receive in your major will be printed on your diploma and transcript. Students earning a second bachelor's degree may be considered for major distinction, but are ineligible to receive honors, but may be considered.

What if I haven't received my diploma and need proof that I graduated?

Once your degree has been granted, you can obtain transcripts that indicate your degree information. Official and unofficial transcripts are available in the SDSU WebPortal. In addition, potential employers may contact the National Student Clearinghouse at (703) 742-4200 for degree and enrollment verification.
