A.S. President

 

Anthony Acosta President

 

 

Anthony Brian Acosta is a Senior from Calexico, California.  He is pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in History. His involvement in Associated Students (A.S.) began in the 2017-2018 Academic Year as a Sports and Social Commissioner. Anthony has served as:

 

  • President of the Associated Students Council (2018-2019)
  • Chair of SDSU-IV’s Campus Fee Advisory Committee (2018-2019)
  • Chair of the A.S. Welcome Back Committee (2018-2019)
  • Part of SDSU-IV’s Commencement Committee (2018-2019)
  • Instructional Student Assistant for the EOP Learning Center (2018-present)
  • Chair of the A.S. Sports and Social Committee (2017-2018)
  • Part of the A.S. Research Committee (2017-2018)
  • Part of the A.S. Team Development Committee (2017-2018)
  • IVUP Ambassador (2017-present)
  • Part of the Aztecs Around the World Club (2016-2018)
  • SDSU-IV Work Study for the Custodial Department (2016-2018)
  • Volunteer for SDSU-IV events e.g. Taste of the Valley, Commencement, etc.

 

As the SDSU-IV Associated Students Council President, Anthony will dedicate time and effort to provide students with the best university experience they can have. Anthony’s main goal is to outreach students to provide them with information regarding resources that SDSU-IV and the Associated Students Council provide. Anthony envisions SDSU-IV to grow substantially over the following years and thinks it is crucial to modernize the school to be a better fit for future generations. Anthony hopes to continue in the Associated Students Council for years to follow. His goal is to be under the four different positions that the SDSU-IV Associated Students Council offers (Executive, Senator, Ambassador, and Commissioner). Leadership is different among each position and Anthony wishes to learn how to be an ideal leader for the Associated Students Council and SDSU-IV.

A.S. Vice President

Carlos R. Chao Jr.

Carlos R. Chao Jr. is a Graduate Student from Calexico, CA.  He graduated in May 2018 with a B.A. in History.  He is currently in the Credential Program.  His involvement in the Associated Students (A.S.) began in the Spring of 2017. Carlos has served as:

  • Vice President of the Associated Students (2018-2019)
  • Chair of the A.S. Disciplinary Committee (2018-2019)
  • Chair of the A.S. Appointment Committee (2018-2019)
  • Chair of the A.S. Club Representatives Committee (2018-2019)
  • SDSU Student Assistant at the Imperial Valley Desert Museum (2018)
  • Instructional Student Assistant for the EOP Learning Center (2018)
  • Part of the A.S. Sports and Social Committee (2017-2019)
  • Ambassador of the Associated Students (2017-2018)
  • Chair of the A.S. Cultural Arts and Special Events Committee (2017-2018)
  • Part of SDSU-IV’s Campus Fee Advisory Committee (2017-2018)

His goals as A.S. Vice President this year are to draw out the full potential of the Associated Students Council.  He wants the student community to benefit from their events and be encouraged to voice their ideas to the council.  Furthermore, he seeks to groom the current council members who are planning on running again next year so they can continue to provide for the students.  All in all, he wishes to have the most productive school year possible, work in the interests of the students, and create a positive campus life for them.

A.S. Treasurer

Edgar Y. Martinez Gonzalez

Edgar Y. Martinez Gonzalez is a Senior from Mexicali, Baja California.  He is pursuing a degree in Criminal Justice.  His involvement in Associated Students (A.S.) began in 2016.  Edgar has served as:

  • A.S. Senator whose purpose was to contribute to the council by voting on multiple decisions that influenced the students’ experience on campus by bringing educational, vocational, and cultural events.
  • Committee Chair for the A.S. Research Committee whose purpose is to find the most accurate information on students’ goals and concerns.  In numerous occasions, Edgar collaborated with school officials, like the Campus Dean and outside agencies to provide quality services to students.  
  • Member of the A.S. Sports and Social Committee.
  • Member of the A.S. Educational Committee.
  • Participated in the A.S. Cultural and Special Events Committee.

Now as A.S Treasurer, his goals are to listen to student concerns and ideas to provide quality services for them, increase student involvement in events, and maintain count of revenues by ensuring that all expenditures are accounted for.  He will also manage accounts as efficiently as possible while educating individuals on how to properly use the money.  He also strives to have more A.S. involvement on financial decisions rather than relying solemnly on school officials.  Lastly, will aim to make students’ experience at SDSU-IV an unforgettable one.

A.S. Secretary

Alyssa Valdez Secretary

 

Alyssa Valdez is a junior from El Centro, California. She is pursuing a degree in Liberal Studies with an emphasis in English.  Her involvement in Associated Students (A.S.) began her sophomore year at SDSU-Imperial Valley.  Alyssa has served as A.S. Secretary for the 2017-2018 academic year as well as the 2018-2019 academic school year, amongst other positions:

A few goals Alyssa has for the 2018-2019 academic school year is to further communicate and strengthen the relationship between SDSU San Diego and SDSU-Imperial Valley. She also wants to further promote and advertise SDSU-IV to the Imperial Valley to help increase the student population.  Lastly, student involvement with the Associated Student Council and A.S. hosted events is an important goal to her.  Alyssa wants all students at SDSU- Imperial Valley to feel welcomed and have the best college experience.
