Founded in 1959 on the original site of the first Calexico High School, SDSU-IV offers 10 bachelor’s and two master’s degrees, including a nationally-acclaimed teacher education program. With fewer than a thousand students, SDSU-IV provides a uniquely intimate educational experience. Due to our proximity to the Mexican border, our campus serves a diverse student body comprised largely of groups that are historically under-represented in higher education. Given our regional focus, responsive curriculum and community engagement, the IV Campus has become a powerful engine of economic growth for the region. The 2012-13 academic year saw the first class of 102 freshmen entering SDSU-IV through the Imperial Valley University Partnership, an innovative educational initiative undertaken by SDSU-IV, Imperial Valley College, and the Imperial County Office of Education that offers Imperial Valley students accessible, affordable, high quality education with a clear path to a Bachelor’s degree in four years.
The Calexico campus is located on an eight-acre city block in the heart of Calexico’s civic center along the Mexican border. The campus facilities create a pleasing architectural harmony of old and new structures surrounding a spacious central lawn area, the Rollie Carrillo Quad. Adjoining the quad, the expanded library, Rodney Auditorium, and John Steppling Art Gallery provide academic and cultural resources for the entire community. Other buildings include classroom buildings, the administration building, faculty offices, computer labs, a bookstore, and the Student Union.
The Brawley location is 24 miles north of the Calexico site. It is surrounded by rich agricultural fields, the largest industry in the Imperial Valley. Brawley houses five classrooms, a computer classroom, and a student computer lab.
